Bill Johnston
Cheboygan, MI, USA
Bill JohnstonBill Johnston first became interested in sled dogs in 1998 when his son Andy studied the Iditarod in his 1st grade class. As coincidence would have it, they found out that they had a relative who was actively involved in running the Iditarod, Al Hardman. A trip to see the dogs and a ride on a training cart and the whole family was hooked on sled dogs. Bill maintained a team of eight dogs for six years before selling the team to Rick and Geri Minard of Hindsite Kennels and sled dog tours this past fall. Bill will be driving a team of Al Hardman's dogs in this year's Midnight Run. Bill has also completed two Seney 300 events while driving Hardman dogs. Bill has competed in several smaller races with his own team of dogs. Bill has been married for twenty years to Winnie and they have two children, Loren a senior in high school, and Andy who is in eight grade. Bill runs a bakery in Indian River and is therefore accustomed to the long grueling hours of distance mushing aka: lack of sleep. Bill is looking forward to the challenge of the Midnight Run and is grateful to Al Hardman for the opportunity to run one of his teams.
